Faith Leaders: Add Your Name to Speak Love

Aleta Payne, Former Deputy Executive Director · November 20, 2016 · 2 Comments

On the weekend of December 2-4, the Council has called on NC faith leaders to shape their worship service around the theme “Love One Another.”

On the same weekend, we hope to run a full-page ad in The Raleigh News & Observer signed by many NC clergy of all faiths. If we are not able to secure funding for the ad, we will share the message through social media and our website. The ad will read:

All of our holy texts call us to love one another, to care for each other, and to work for justice. Now more than ever, we pledge to lead by example and work together for the beloved community God invites us to share. In hope and peace, [signatures]

Clergy can have their names included by going to this link or by emailing info@ncchurches.org with their name, title, congregation, and location. Responses are needed by noon on Tuesday, November 29 so we can complete the ad.

About Aleta Payne, Former Deputy Executive Director

Aleta Payne first joined the Council staff in the spring of 2001 as the Communications Associate. She continues to oversee that work along with development, represents the Council in several partnership efforts, and serves in other administrative roles, as well. Aleta is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in government and foreign affairs and spent much of her early career as a journalist. She has three young adult sons who continue to come home to Cary for dinner, or at least groceries, and two young adult terrier-mix dogs who keep the nest from feeling too empty.

As a retired Episcopal priest, I continue to pray and live for a world in which all are honored, respected, and cherished, the breaking in of the kin-dom of God.

I am honorably retired and am not leading a congregation. However, I will be an active participant in worship and am committed to spreading Christ’s healing words of love where I do serve.
