Updated ACA and Medicaid Expansion Resources Available

Rose Gurkin, Former Program Associate for Administration · October 23, 2015 · Leave a Comment

The open enrollment period for the Healthcare Marketplace will open on November 1, and the Council’s Affordable Care Act resource page has been updated to provide helpful information. It is important to look at what the 2016 health care plans have to offer and to be certain that you are enrolled in the best plan to meet you and your family’s health care needs.

Whether you’re a single individual, you have a family, you are self-employed, or you are a student, now is the time to compare quotes and view plans in the Healthcare Marketplace and gather information on subsidies for which you may qualify.

Many health insurance shoppers don’t realize that there are tax penalties if you do not have health care coverage. Obtaining a free health insurance quote and going through the health insurance application can be confusing. You may need a licensed insurance advisor’s assistance. Our resource page will provide information on getting that assistance. If you choose to do it yourself, be sure that you set a reminder to apply before the deadline.

Each insurance company offers unique health insurance solutions, giving you a wealth of options to choose from. Keep in mind that each state has its own set of health insurance regulations and not every insurance company offers plans nationwide.

The Council has gathered information and important online links to assist in your preparation for enrollment, the actual enrollment process, and other materials to make it easier to get the answers to questions you have about the Affordable Care Act.  In addition, we have added information about Medicaid expansion, a critically important issue for almost 500,000 uninsured North Carolinians.

The verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial is only a small step toward holding police accountable for using excessive force against our black & brown siblings. There is still so much work to do to dismantle racism that is apparent in the white supremacist culture we live in. #BLM
