Breastfeeding Collaborative Awards First Mini-Grant

Marnie Cooper Priest, Former Project Director for the Breastfeeding Collaborative · September 27, 2014 · 1 Comment

Congratulations to Doorkeeper International Ministries, of Raleigh for being recognized as a breastfeeding-friendly congregation by the Partners in Health and Wholeness Breastfeeding Collaborative. They were also presented with a $5000 mini-grant, the first to be awarded by the Collaborative.

Congregations in the Breastfeeding Collaborative are recognized for signing on to the breastfeeding-friendly congregations statement, distributing written materials to their congregation about the health benefits, and choosing a breastfeeding champion, who then starts a support group at the congregation’s place of worship.

These congregations are qualified to apply for a mini-grant of up to $5000 for creating a comfortable space for breastfeeding mothers at their place of worship. Doorkeeper International is converting an existing office into a place for breastfeeding mothers to relax together while nursing. The space includes, couches, rocking chairs, books, magazines and videos. By creating this room for breastfeeding mothers, Doorkeeper International is demonstrating that they value mothers and want to make their church a welcoming place for women who are breastfeeding.

Doorkeeper International Ministries also helps families through teaching financial planning, meal planning, and active family living, as well as to linking families with housing and educational needs to the appropriate community services.

Congratulations, Doorkeeper International Ministries, for all that you do to help families stay healthy!
