Life Around the Table is a ministry dedicated to building up communities and increasing their capacity to eat together faithfully. We believe that God created the world to be a place where all people can have access to food that LAUGHS: food which is Local, Affordable, Uncomplicated, Good, Healthy, and Seasonal.

Who

Life Around the Table works with congregations and organizations in the Central North Carolina. Life Around the Table is a ministry of the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church and is supported by The Duke Endowment.

What

Life Around the Table invites, equips, and encourages clergy, congregations, and communities to eat together faithfully.

Where

Life Around the Table has offices in Durham NC and a small farm in Efland NC.  We serve the surrounding region, including Orange, Alamance, Chatham, Durham, and Wake counties.

Why

We believe “the smallest unit of health is community.” As created beings we belong to one another, and the health of soils, plants, animals, and humans are intricately linked. We work to foster the health of communities, including their land and their people, so that all of creation can flourish.

When

Since 2014.

How

Programs include Sabbath Life (clergy support and professional development), Eating Together (adult and children’s curriculum for congregations and communities), teaching, hosting, consulting, retreats, and special events exploring creative, faithful ways for communities to eat together.

Comments

Life Around the Table gathers people together to eat and wonder how the renewal of the church can come through the renewal of her eating practices.  Life Around the Table aims to foster a Eucharistic imagination and encourage people to envision and create a world where all people in every community have access to healthy, just, sustainable food.
