5-2-1 Almost None is a consistent way to talk about healthy habits and healthy places that support healthy weight children and families. Kids and families can set goals to practice the 4 healthy habits in this message: 5 fruits or vegetables, 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity, and the “almost none” refers to intake of sugary drinks each day.
This message was identified in 2011 by the policy committee of the WNC Healthy Kids coalition and adopted by a broad, diverse group of stakeholders from across Western North Carolina.
The campaign has many ways to be involved, including pledges that community organizations can sign on to. They also have a page devoted to resources for faith communities to become involved including bulletin inserts and ways to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your community life: www.521almostnone.com/resources/faith/.
The campaign is in Western NC, but the message applies anywhere!
Faith-based organizations are well positioned to encourage healthy living and the 5-2-1 Almost None messaging. Trusted leaders in congregations can empower families and individuals to create a plan to improve their health.
