Faith and Conscience Convocation: A Call for Accountability for Torture (Asheville)

April 28, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

The convocation will explore North Carolina’s connection, through the use of its public airports, a local airline (Aero Contractors), and locally based employees of the airline, to the CIA’s Rendition, Detention, and Interrogation (RDI) program that began after the 9/11 attacks. Muslim people were kidnapped, bound, and transported to CIA black sites and to foreign countries, where they were held indefinitely without charges and were tortured. Most were innocent of any offense.

Speakers will include NC Commission of Inquiry on Torture Commissioner David Crane, former war crimes prosecutor, retired Colonel Larry Wilkerson who has extensive knowledge of the program, and Christina Cowger, a founder of NC Stop Torture Now.

Deadline to register is April 25.

Co-Conveners are NC Stop Torture Now, ACLU of North Carolina, NC Commission of Inquiry on Torture, and Carolina Jews for Justice.
