Urgent Action Alert: Please Call Congress about Health Care

Aleta Payne, Former Deputy Executive Director · May 4, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Our allies at the NC Justice Center have put out the following action alert about efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

As people of faith, we believe that we are all equally beloved children of God. The America Health Care Act values some more than others and leaves the most vulnerable among us even more endangered.

A vote is imminent. Please call your representative.

From the NC Justice Center:

TAKE ACTION NOW! Call Congress to Stop Trumpcare 3.0

Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives just negotiated a backroom deal to amend the Trumpcare bill, and now they’re hoping to bring the bill to the floor for a vote today or tomorrow.

But the latest changes to the bill do nothing to change the facts about this proposal, which would:

  • Allow insurance companies to charge higher prices older adults and people with pre-existing conditions;
  • Slash Medicaid funding for children, people with disabilities, and seniors in nursing homes by $880 billion;
  • Pass tax breaks to millionaires, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical corporations;
  • Remove requirements that plans cover key services like prescriptions, behavioral health, and substance use disorder treatment; and
  • Take coverage away from 24 million Americans.

Centrist and moderate Republicans are feeling pressure from party leaders and Trump to vote for this awful bill. We need you to call Congress today and urge them to vote “NO” on the American Health Care Act.

Dial 866-426-2631 to call on your North Carolina congressman in the House of Representatives TODAY!
Tell your Representative to vote against the AHCA and to protect North Carolinians with pre-existing conditions.

Here are a few things you can say when you call:

New changes to the American Health Care Act would allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions again. Don’t force cancer survivors, new moms, and North Carolinians recovering from opioid addiction to pay more for the health coverage they need. Please vote against the American Health Care Act.

After you call, forward this email to five friends and family members—we need in strength in numbers!
