PHW Success Story – Paradise Outreach Ministry, Greenville

Willona Stallings, Former Program Coordinator – Partners in Health & Wholeness · September 25, 2014 · Leave a Comment

We at Paradise Outreach Ministry are making great strides in involving our congregation in healthy initiatives. It is a pleasure to announce that we just completed our 2nd Annual CPR and First Aid Training Class! As a member of the Health Ministry, we are in the process of organizing a walk-a-thon to improve health awareness and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. One challenge we are facing is reaching a larger population in our community. I truly believe the PHW mini grant will help us with marketing and advertisement so that we can reach a larger mass of people to attend these events.

Our Pastor, Vanessa R. Byrd, is pleased with the strides we are making and is very involved in our efforts. One tip I would give other congregations would be to involve your leadership in every step of the Health Ministry’s endeavors. I find it very refreshing and empowering to have our Pastor come out and participate and get her hands “dirty”, while helping to spread the good news of Christ and health. Another tip would be to RESEARCH! When trying to find funding for various events for your ministry, it is very important to research and network. There are people in your community who know of grants, free funding, or just have a name of someone who could possibly help. Get out there and fellowship with others; you’d be amazed at what God can do!

Paradise Outreach Ministry is on the move! We plan to use our grant funds to improve our youth church snacks, promote our walk-a-thon, and fund our next Health Fair – just to name a few. We are all about faith and health, and truly believe they go hand in hand. Thank you for this blessing.

The success story above was submitted by Tanya Bullock, PHW Liaison at Paradise Outreach Ministry in Greenville, and under the pastoral leadership of Vanessa R. Byrd. If your congregation would like to put your faith in action by prioritizing the health of your members, please visit the PHW website at www.healthandwholeness.org.

About Willona Stallings, Former Program Coordinator – Partners in Health & Wholeness

Partners in Health and Wholeness (PHW) connects congregations with existing resources in the community and provides them with the tools necessary (sometimes in the form of mini-grants) to implement healthier practices, policies and programs. I live in Raleigh and enjoy good food, area greenways and bargain shopping.
