Program and Registration for 2013 Legislative Seminar

Click here to sign up to receive the Raleigh Report in your inbox

If you are interested in attending, but have not pre-registered, you may call our office at 919-828-6501 on Tuesday, April 9 until 5:00 p.m.

Gene Nichol, Director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the UNC-CH School of Law will be the lunch speaker at this year’s Legislative Seminar. The day’s topic for Nichol, who is also the school’s Boyd Tinsley Distinguished Professor, is “It’s Better Not to Be Poor in NC.”

The seminar takes place Thursday, April 11 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. It begins with worship led by the Rev. Joe Brown, a presiding elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. The Rev. Fletcher Harper, Executive Driector of GreenFaith, will provide the opening plenary address, “Communicating the Values We Believe.”

The full day of workshops is led by expert presenters and offers opportunities for progressive people of faith to learn about critical issues facing the General Assembly. Grassroots activists working for social justice and all other interested people are encouraged to attend.

As Executive Director George Reed has said, “It’s important to come together at gathering like this for at least two reasons: First, it shows others that prophetic, progressive people of faith aren’t going to go away and hide just because the legislative climate is not so favorable here in North Carolina. And, second, it’s important for us to be together with like-minded souls. It’s going to be a hard session; we need each other.”

A program follows.  For a more detailed program and additional information on workshops, click here.
